
Lily Smocked Dress (2-part series)
Part 1, full day 10:30 - 4:30 pm
In this class, you will prepare your fabric for the Lily dress, including:
- cutting all pattern pieces (child size 3, 4, or 5)
- tracing and cutting all garment fabric pieces, including bias piping pieces
- pleating the front bodice in preparation for smocking
- serging all exposed raw edges
- choosing embroidery floss colour combinations
- beginning the bodice smocking
Required materials:
1. Solid cotton broadcloth fabric, 44" wide, washed and pressed:
Size 3 - 2.25 metres
Size 4 - 2.25 metres
Size 5 - 2.5 metres
2. Lightweight fusible interfacing - one piece, 10 cm x 25 cm
3. Four (4) 15 mm coordinating buttons
4. Milliner, embroidery, crewel, cotton darner, straw, or tapestry needles
for smocking.
5. Fabric scissors or rotary cutter.
6. Small scissors.
7. Fabric marker.
8. Magnifier, if desired.
9. Small light, if desired.
Christina will provide for all students:
10. The Lily dress pattern and instructions.
11. A *wide* selection of DMC embroidery floss.

Part 2, full day 10:30 -4:30 pm
Prerequisite: Part 1 - Lily dress bodice must be completely hand smocked.
In this class, you will construct the Lily dress, including:
- blocking your smocked Lily bodice
- sewing the bias piping
- attaching the smocked bodice to the dress bodice
- interfacing the back button and buttonhole edges
- attaching the dress back, linings, and armhole and neckline bindings
- sewing the buttons and buttonholes
- hemming the dress
Required materials:
1. The completed smocked bodice for your dress.
2. All of the cut pattern fabric pieces for your dress (from Part 1), including
the piping pieces.
3. Gutermann thread to match your fabric.
4. At least one bobbin for the Elna sewing machines.
Christina will provide for all students:
5. Fine piping cord.
6. Small piping foot for the Elna sewing machines.
7. Buttonhole foot for the Elna sewing machines.
