Vintage Canadian Singer Sewing Machine in Queen Anne-Style Cabinet

Serial No. JB076076 | Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec

This is a particularly beautiful example of a vintage Singer sewing machine, made even more special by its elegant furniture-style cabinet and Canadian manufacturing history.

Bearing serial number JB076076, the machine carries Singer's “JB” serial prefix, associated with production at Singer's factory in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec (often referred to as “St. John's” in historical Singer records). Machines bearing this prefix date from the period between approximately 1936 and 1948.

The Singer machine is cleverly incorporated into a handsome fold-away wooden sewing table. When needed, the cabinet opens to create a practical sewing workspace; when closed, it becomes an attractive piece of furniture.

The cabinet features graceful Queen Anne-style cabriole legs, a front storage drawer and a warm wood finish. Completing the ensemble is its matching upholstered sewing stool, making this a particularly lovely and increasingly unusual complete set.

Unlike the traditional cast-iron treadle cabinets associated with earlier Singer machines, this style reflects a changing era in home sewing—when manufacturers began designing sewing machines and cabinets to blend beautifully with the furnishings of the home.
