Antique Singer Model 127 Treadle Sewing Machine – 1919
A beautiful piece of sewing history, this Singer Model 127 treadle sewing machine dates to 1919, making it more than a century old.
The machine bears serial number G6658586, which corresponds to a Singer production allotment dated January 9, 1919. This particular allotment consisted of 25,000 Model 127 machines, with production taking place at Singer's historic Elizabethport factory in New Jersey, USA.
The Singer 127 is particularly interesting for its vibrating-shuttle mechanism, which uses the distinctive long, boat-shaped shuttle and bobbin rather than the round bobbins familiar to today's sewers. These machines were built with substantial cast-iron construction and designed to provide years and, as this machine demonstrates, generations of service.
With its traditional Singer styling and treadle configuration, this is a wonderful example of the machines that were once at the heart of the family sewing room.
Today, it would make a beautiful addition to a sewing room, textile studio, vintage collection, retail display or home décor setting.
